A poll after a while

Hi guys!

I know it's ben some time since last poll but taking the opportunity that the post engine is finally back to it's usual usefulness I decided to come up with something.

For those of you, who find the options in it a bit confusing a short explanation:

I am asking wether you wish to be led by your hand while playing the game, or to have some stuff to figure out and dfind unexpected tweaks.

The first option in the poll means that the game should hint everything:
'If you have ability X you will be able to use it here in the future'
'If you choose this option, the character will return later in-game as an enemy / a friend'
'To continue the quest you need to find npc named Y in front of builng Z in front of the INN in town W'

The second option means that the game should hint just slightly:
'This chst looks interesting. I wonder if it can be used in the future.'
'Your choice may have consequences in the future'
'While exploring the town keep your eyes opened for the suspicious looking character'

Last option is a bit hard-core but probably most realistic. Players get no special hints.
'It's just a chest'
No information about consequences of choices.
Information about quests only included in dialogues.

Have a nice time voting and take care guys ;)

  1. How much you hint in a game is an issue, however the hardcore option is right out. Personnaly, I'd like to have a logbook or questlog that retain information of what I already have done and what I need to do next. That way, I can recall more easily what task needs done.

I think the middle option (not hinting too much) is a good compromise. You lay out some basic rules at the begining (choice matter), and tell people what they should look for. However, it's more a narrative ploy than a game design choice. I mean, who's gonna ask the player to look for that shady character, but an npc? The unknown is good, you let the player investigate and discover.

  2. I agree with Bicobus, a questlog or logbook would be of use for players who have, um, less than reliable memory?
